Nurse Akeila Ware Was Pregnant When Shot To Death On Georgia Highway By Soldier Boyfriend

Nurse Akeila Ware was shot to death on a Georgia Highway in Troup County on Oct. 5. The 29-year-old Ware was pregnant, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Ware was found by Troup County Sheriff’s Officers on the side of Highway 18 inside her vehicle around 12:49 p.m.

She was unresponsive.

The officers thought there had been a car accident until they noticed Ware’s car was bullet-ridden. Ware had veered off the road and ran into a tree after being shot through her car door. According to Stewart Smith from the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, she was taken to the hospital where she and her unborn child were pronounced dead. She was nearly 9-months pregnant.

“This was a targeted, senseless crime. She was taken by ambulance to a Columbus area hospital in very bad condition and unfortunately she and her unborn baby were pronounced deceased at the hospital yesterday afternoon,” he said.

Police arrested Fort Bragg soldier Alonzo Dargan Jr. on Oct. 7. Dargan was Ware’s boyfriend and was allegedly trailing her in another vehicle on Oct. 5. Police said that he ran his girlfriend off the road and shot her from his car, a Nissan Altima.

Dargan, who is married to another woman, was arrested by the military police and charged with feticide, murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He is held at the Cumberland County Detention Center in North Carolina and will remain there until he is extradited to Troup County.
