Shaun King Announced A Social Media Break And Black Twitter Did What It Does

Shaun King is in the news again. The problematic social justice activist took to social media to announce that he was taking a break from the various social media platforms for the rest of the month. In true shady fashion, Black Twitter responded to this news in the way that only Black Twitter can.

King has gotten a reputation as a bit of a swindler by many Black people. His popularity comes from his constant insertion in notorious racial injustice incidents such as police brutality and viral videos involving Karens and Kens.

King had a rough June. First, Samaria Rice called him out on social media for various “misstatements” he previously made. Then, he was accused of opening a fake Twitter account to defend himself from her and others’ accusations against him.

On July 6, King announced that he was deleting Twitter to spend the rest of July with his family and return in August. Four days ago, he posted on Instagram to say he was merely peeking in to voice his support for Lee Merritt’s run for Texas Attorney General and shout out his wife on her 40th birthday. He then said he would be deleting the page again until August. The page is set to private.

Upon hearing the news of his social media break, Black Twitter wasted no time. Some predicted that he would do so with a new ploy– perhaps even marketing himself to Conservatives when he returns.

Some commenters took time to reflect on King’s best (worst) moments.

Some came with their best one-liners.

But, everyone agreed that this is a joyous occasion, even if temporary.

Black Twitter better enjoy this break because King is scheduled to return in 12 days.
