A third suspect, 19-year-old Khalil Nelson, has been charged with the death of New Orleans police detective Everett Briscoe and Dyrin “DJ” Riculfy. Briscoe and Riculfy had been having dinner in Houston when they were shot on Aug. 21.
As previously reported by News Onyx, Briscoe and Riculfy were at the Grotto Ristorante having dinner on the patio when they were approached by two men, 19-year-old Frederick Jackson and Anthony Jenkins, 21, demanding their belongings. One of the men shot Briscoe, 41, and Riculfy, 43, before the two men got into a Nissan Altima Nelson was driving.
Briscoe died later that evening and Riculfy died on Aug. 31 after spending a week in a coma. Jackson and Jenkins were caught just days after the shooting. The police announced that Nelson had been charged on Sept. 9.
New Orleans Police Chief Shaun Ferguson was deeply upset about the death of Briscoe and posted a message on social media.
“I am extremely heartbroken about the death of my dear friend and brother Detective Everette Briscoe who was killed while off-duty in Houston, Texas. I am praying for the family of Det. Briscoe and for the family of the second victim in this incident.”
I want to thank @houstonpolice Chief Troy Finner for his strong words of support during this time. I would also ask that you pray for the #NOPD family as we begin to understand the enormous loss we have suffered. Detective Briscoe was a great officer and an even better friend. We will miss him dearly.”
All three men are being held without bond and have each been charged with two counts of capital murder.
