Two men have been arrested for the murder of a 20-year-old Milwaukee woman.
Sultan Shareef and Johnny Allen Hopgood allegedly killed Kania Brunson after she informed Shareef’s wife that she was having a relationship with the suspect. CBS 58 reported that the estranged couple met up on September 24, and Shareef audaciously called Brunson’s mother a week before she was killed, telling Jennifer Meadows, “I want to be done messing with your daughter, but she’s reaching out to my wife.”
On the night in question, Brunson met with Shareef, and he attacked her. An unidentified friend of the married man called the police after he witnessed the alleged killer on top of the 20-year-old woman as she begged for help and screamed, “He cut my throat.”
Police arrived on the scene, but the pair were no longer on the scene. Cops received a call hours later and discovered Brunson’s bound body– shot and set aflame.
During the investigation, Milwaukee police questioned Shareef’s wife. The woman claimed her husband was with her on that fateful night in September, but surveillance footage determined she was lying.
Meadows described her daughter as bright and ambitious. The victim wanted to become a vet or an orthodontist but had enrolled in cosmetology school. She also called Brunson “her best friend.”
“She actually taught me how to put on eyelashes and do my eyebrows. She was everything to me. She was everything, and this is the most hurtful feeling,” the grieving mother told the news outlet.
And although Shareef and his brother-in-law, Hopgood, were arrested for Brunson’s death, Meadows wants to go after everyone complicit in the death of her beloved daughter.
“They think that they’re gonna be out here and live their normal life after they, you know, helped with this.”
Cameron Meadow, Brunson’s stepfather, also expressed that he wanted “justice” for his stepdaughter and that her “smile” was everything.
“She can make you smile right away. You know me and her, we laugh about the silliest things. I just want the same thing that my wife wants. I want justice, and I want it to be at the full extent. It’s still unbelievable. It’s still hard to believe that you know, she’s not here with us,” Cameron
told CBS 58.The 20-year-old woman’s father also spoke about his daughter, calling her “a light.”
“Even if you haven’t met or didn’t know Kania when you met Kania, you fell in love with Kania. She’s going to make you smile. She’s going to crack a joke. You just want to know who she is. A bright aura around her, a bright light,” Shawnte Brunson told WISN.
Shareef is being held on $500,000, while Hopgood’s bond is $50,000. The two men are due back in court this week.
