UPDATE: Former NBA Player Delonte West Lands Flooring Job

Former NBA player Delonte West is getting back on track, starting with a new flooring job.

West was reportedly seen panhandling earlier this month on the highway in Virginia.

Luckily, the Beyer Subaru car dealership in Alexandria, Virginia, saw the viral video and, noticing it was nearby, decided to help West land a job, according to TMZ.

When asked about the clip, West told

The Image Direct, “It is what it is.”

He continued, “I got children. I’m in between jobs. People can help me as much as they can, but you know, as a man, I gotta do what I gotta do for my babies.”

In addition to the Mavericks, West played for the Celtics, Cavaliers and Seattle SuperSonics. He was drafted out of Saint Joseph’s University by the Boston Celtics in 2004.

West also says he was involved in the NBA scouting process for a few years.

“I’m always involved in the game I love,” he said. “Last year, I was scouting for the Dallas Mavericks, and the previous three years, I was an NBA scout for the Boston Celtics.”

In a viral Twitter clip, the man who resembles West is seen standing on Richmond Highway in Alexandria with a cardboard sign in his hand.

West played for the Mavericks during the 2011-12 NBA season. The clip went viral following Mavericks owner Mark Cuban’s attempt to get him back on track.

The 38-year-old Washington D.C. native was diagnosed with bipolar disorder years ago and has struggled with mental health and addiction issues. He has had difficulty staying out of trouble and getting back on his feet.

We can only hope this flooring gig will help West get back on his feet and that more NBA opportunities also come his way.
