UPDATE: Marion Lewis Charged With Murder In Shooting Death of Jaslyn Adams, 7 At McDonald’s

After Jaslyn Adams, 7, was killed while waiting at a local McDonalds’ drive-thru, Chicago police have finally apprehended a suspect after a nearly fatal car chase. The 18-year-old suspected participating in the fatal shooting will now face a murder charge, CNN reports.

News Onyx reported on the horrendous incident earlier this week. Adams was with her father while waiting for their food in a McDonald’s drive-thru line on a Sunday afternoon, April 18. That’s when the previously unknown suspect and another assailant

opened
fire on her father’s, Jontae Adams, vehicle striking the child at least six times. Chicago police believe that the pair fired up to 50 rounds.

Marion Lewis, one of the suspects involved, was identified by Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown after he was shot and wounded following a vehicle pursuit and crash, CNN reports. It is unclear whether Lewis, 18, was the trigger man who killed Adams.

Brown’s investigation of Lewis began with surveillance of the suspect. Police eventually found Lewis after he crashed his car on Eisenhower Expressway and attempted to carjack a vehicle from a family stopped in traffic, according to NBC 5. After being confronted by Chicago police, the suspect was shot several times and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police have not disclosed what led to the shooting.

According to CNN, Lewis faces a laundry list of charges including first-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder, robbery, aggravated vehicle hijacking, and aggravated assault of a police officer. And according to Brown, the investigation doesn’t stop with Lewis. Chicago police are still searching for other suspects in the case to bring justice to the Adams family.

“You can run, but you can’t hide. We are going to bring you to justice for this crime. The Adams family deserves nothing less,” he told CNN about the senseless shooting.

Lewis will have a bond court hearing on Sunday, April 25, one week after Adams’ murder.
