Vince Carter’s Wife And Sons Hid During A Terrifying Burglary In Their Home

A burglary inside the home of ex-Hawks player Vince Carter with his wife, Sondi Alexis Carter, and their two sons left the woman and her children scrounging for safety, according to Sports Illustrated.

The burglary happened on Father’s Day.

USA Today reported that Sondi was laying in bed with her twin sons when she heard noises coming from the front of their house. She then grabbed her sons, and they hid in the children’s bedroom closet. The suspects broke into the family’s estate through the first-floor window. Authorities found the rooms looking “disarray” and the hinges on the gate at the top of the stairs broken off.

The burglars wound up stealing more than $100,000 worth of cash from their house.

“Ms. Carter stated she could hear the unknown suspects come upstairs and rummage through their belongings in different rooms while she hid,” the report stated.

When the Atlanta Police Department arrived on the scene, one officer said she saw the suspect dressed in all black clothes and a mask get picked up in a black SUV and left the scene, avoiding the police. Officers discovered more than $16,000 in $100 bills scattered in front of their gated home along with the burglars’ firearm. Carter also had a gun inside his home.

Vince’s whereabouts during the burglary are unknown. However, he spoke with the police over the phone. He informed officers that the cash “was just a small portion of over $100,000 that was missing from a brown bag,” which he stored in the master bedroom’s closet.

Sondi’s 911 audio was released to TMZ, where she is audibly terrified for her and her sons. At the beginning of the audio, Sondi is whispering for the officers to hurry up and there’s a slight sound of rummaging in the background. The frightened mother is also heard telling her children to avoid making any sound. The 911 operator instructed her to remain quiet.

“This can’t be happening, this can’t be happening,” Sondi whispered. She also asked the operator if authorities were close. “My poor children, my poor children.”

According to Carter’s wife in the audio, this was the second time a burglary had happened in two years.

Fortunately, Vince’s wife and kids weren’t harmed.
