Virginia Mother Still Searching For Missing Son, Marcus Thompson

Marcus Thompson, a 32-year-old Richmond, Virginia native, has been missing for eight months, and his family and friends are asking for help to find him.

According to his mother, Lynetta Thompson, it’s almost been

a year since she’s seen or heard from Marcus and eight months since family members were in touch with him via text messages.

“I just want to hear his voice,” she said. “I just want to know that he’s OK.”

After graduating from Hampton University in Virginia, Thompson relocated to Pittsburgh, where he lived for seven years and pursued a career in finance.

However, when his job downsized in 2019,  he moved back to Richmond to live at his mom’s house.

“When he’d come home, he’d pull everybody together. He’s family-oriented like that and always wanted us all together,” she told the news outlet. “He was single, not married, no kids – so he was living his life. He’d go visit friends from school, and they’d go on trips. When he left last year, I didn’t think anything of it. He’d check in with me or someone eventually. But he never did.”

Lynetta initially filed a missing person report on November 4, 2020. Thompson was located by Virginia State Police in Fairfax a few weeks later.

According to the state trooper who found the man, Thompson was going home.

“He said he would, but he never did. We never heard his voice. This was just not his behavior at all,” said Lynetta.

Lynetta attempted to reach her son after one of his cousins died but discovered that his phone had been shut off. Unpaid bills began to overwhelm his home, and his vehicle received a traffic citation in June that went unresolved.

“At this point, I have to believe that he’s in danger or a danger to himself, but I was still at a loss of what to do,” his mother said. “I just want to know that he’s OK. But I just feel it in my heart that, at this stage, something is extremely wrong. I’m just worried.”

Lynetta has utilized the help of her family to post a flier with Marcus’s photo and information on social media in hopes of locating her son.

Marcus’ friends and schoolmates are assisting his mother in the search by sharing the fliers. They are hanging them in the Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh areas.
