VP Kamala Harris Laughed About Visiting Border Towns, It Didn’t Go Over Well

Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, is officially in hot water over comments she made on Monday during a meeting with the press. According to the viral video, Harris was asked by a journalist if she had plans to visit the U.S./Mexico border, to which she replied, “Um…not today!’ with a hearty laugh.

Harris followed up by saying, “But, I have before, and I’m sure I will again.”

Naturally, many people were rubbed the wrong way by what seemed to be Harris’s casual attitude towards the border issues. The Trump administration notoriously heightened tensions between Mexico and the U.S. by threatening to build a “big, beautiful wall” and separating children from their families at the border.

But what makes Harris’s remarks even more concerning are the reports that the Biden administration, in the midst of processing the thousands who’ve crossed into America,  is placing children in the same overflow camps that many criticized Trump for.

Since March 2020, Trump had closed off the U.S. borders to those seeking asylum and essentially deported the migrant families back to their home country. However, when POTUS Joe Biden took office this past January, he largely kept the policy, only

allowing now for unaccompanied minors to enter.

According to POLITICO, “Since the shift in policy, some parents and guardians have made the devastating decision, calculated only out of desperation, to send their children off ahead of them, alone, to cross the border. The result is a new form of family separation…”

After Harris’s video interview reached social media, many were outraged at her lack of concern. One Twitter user

wrote, “Laughing in response to kids being packed in jails like sardines is certainly one approach…”

One other user tweeted, “Kamala Harris, putting kids in cages is NO laughing matter…”

We’re not sure how the VP is coming back from this. Let us know what you think about her reaction below.
