Yaqub Salik Tabib Indicted On Felony Murder By Texas Grand Jury For Killing Youth Football Coach

Yaqub Salik Talib, brother of former NFL player Aqib Talid, was indicted on a felony murder charge in front of a Texas grand jury for fatally shooting a youth football coach. According to court records obtained by the WFAA, on August 13, at a Lancaster, Texas football game, Yaqub pulled a weapon on 43-year-old Michael Hickmon after an altercation.

CNN reported that a grand jury concluded that Yaqub

“did unlawfully then and there intentionally and knowingly cause the death of Michael Hickmon,” intended to cause Hickmon bodily injury and committed an act “clearly dangerous to human life” by shooting a firearm, which killed the coach.”

Yaqub’s attorney told the press that there would be an issue of defense once the trial came around, suggesting a self-defense argument was possible.

He assured, “Mr. Talib regrets the tragic loss of life but turned himself into the law so he could tell his side of the story.”

The incident mentioned above occurred on August 13, as reported

by NewsOnyx; the altercation began when two Texas youth football teams played, and there was an argument between coaches – one of which was Yaqub and his brother. A gun fired, Yaqub allegedly shot it, and the bullet hit Hickmon after the fight broke up.

“During the disagreement, the opposing coach staff was involved in a physical altercation, and one of the individuals involved in the altercation discharged a firearm striking one adult male,” a press release said.

The victim’s family also said, “Our family is grieving. Right now, we don’t see an end to our grief. We miss him immensely. We always will. We will love him forever.”

Yaqub Salik Talib is the brother of Aqib Talib – a former cornerback for the Denver Broncos. He received All-American honors before being a first-round draft pick in his breakthrough to the NFL.
