Breyanla Cooper Arrested, Facing Charge In Connection With Toddler Recovered From Chattahoochee River

Breyanla Cooper, 27, was arrested Thursday, July 1, in connection with the death of a toddler. The young child’s body was recovered earlier that day in Georgia’s Chattahoochee River, according to WXIA-TV, leading police to track down the Stone Mountain woman, who now faces a felony charge of “concealing the death of another.”

Located on the Alabama-Georgia border and running throughout the Peach State, the Chattahoochee River is

known for its often turbulent waters and wide riverbed. According to WXIA-TV, the toddler was discovered by firefighters, not investigators, during a training exercise last Thursday. After analyzing the scene, investigators later estimated that the child might have been in the river for several days before the discovery.

It is unclear whether Cooper is the toddler’s mother or even related at all. In a release obtained by WXIA-TV, the Cobb County Police Department stated, “As of now, the relationship between Cooper and the toddler has not been confirmed,”

But according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Sgt. Wayne Delk of the Cobb County police stated that her arrest came from multiple received tips from the public after details of the toddler’s body were released.

Cobb County police also estimated the toddler’s age to be between one and two years old. Believed to be a boy, they recently released a sketch of the child to hopefully allow someone to identify the young child, who hasn’t been

matched to any local missing child reports.

Last Friday, Cooper was denied bond by a judge due to her warrant listing her as a “danger to people and community,” CBS 46 reported.

An official cause of death has not yet been released.
