Candace Owens Gets Denied a COVID-19 Test For Spreading Misinformation

On Wednesday, September 1, conservative Candace Owens recently took to Twitter and complained about a private COVID-19 testing site that chose to deny her service after she spread misinformation.

In an incredibly hypocritical tweet, Owens said, “Holy crap!! I just received an e-mail from a Covid testing facility that they are REFUSING to administer a test to me because they don’t like my politics. INSANE. I’m banned from making sure I don’t accidentally spread Covid? Going live with the e-mail on Instagram in 10 mins!”

Owens then added a follow up tweet with an extra flare of dramatics saying, “And yes—for the “she must be lying” crowd, I will be plastering the e-mail on Twitter and Instagram thereafter for the world to see. The public Heath crisis is SO REAL, that they are now banning individuals from COMPLYING with rules to ensure they don’t spread COVID.”

Susan Lee, a spokesperson for the testing site wrote Owens backs saying she had heard of Owens’ appointment and was “going to refuse this booking and deny service,” adding, “We cannot support anyone who has pro-actively worked to make this pandemic worse by spreading misinformation, politicizing and DISCOURAGING the wearing of masks and actively dissuading people from receiving life-saving vaccinations.”

Lee also mentions to Owens that the next available local testing site offers a free test that is mailed to Texas first, often has inconsistent result times, and that the entrance to the site is in a back alley.

“My team and myself have worked overtime, to exhaustion, unpaid and underpaid this past year, spending our own capital to ensure that our community remains protected,” she wrote. “It would be unfair to them and to the sacrifices we have all made this year to serve you.”

Owens replied to critics, writing, “I very much believe in the freedom to choose. Just pointing out the great irony that when the ‘health employees’ begin choosing who is allowed to determine if they have covid — we are no longer in a public health crisis. Admit it. Covid is political.”

One Twitter user responded to Owens reminding her that as she and several other Republicans have previously noted, privately owned businesses remain within their rights to deny anyone service.

The user said, “Weren’t you all for supporting a business’s right to choose who they serve? And now you’re backtracking because they won’t serve you?”
