Clock Enthusiast Flavor Flav Is A Part-Time Detroit Resident, ‘I Love Detroit’

Public Enemy founder Flavor Flav reportedly lives in Detroit part-time because his girlfriend lives there, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The rapper and reality star expressed his love for the city and explained his history with it to the outlet.

“I love Detroit,” The Flavor of Love star said. He shared that his first time visiting Detroit happened in 1986 when he flew to the city to open for the Beastie Boys at the Fox Theatre. “Ever since then, I’ve loved Detroit. And Detroit loves Flav. When I come to Detroit, Detroit lets me take over.”

In 2012, Flavor Flav’s hip-hop group Public Enemy headlined the Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit. That same year, the rapper opened an eponymous restaurant called Flavor Flav’s Chicken and Ribs in Sterling Heights, which closed a year later.

While he recently announced his part-time residency in the city, his latest ventures on his Instagram page demonstrate how much time he has spent there.

For example, he attended the Taylor Swift Eras concert at Ford Field on June 10, exchanging friendship bracelets with the “Sparks Fly” singer’s fans.

“Making trouble with my girl @taylorswift and making friends, so make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it. Thanks to Taylor and team, Erica, Marissa, Jenny, and iHeart, for making this happen. Bigger thanks to all my new friends for the friendship bracelets,” the rapper posted on Instagram.

He also hung out with and cheered on race car driver Will Power during June’s IndyCar Series race at the Detroit Grand Prix.

On June 3, he posted a video of him performing a freestyle rap before the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix building.

“Flavor Flav the real McCoy/ I make everybody jump for joy/ In the place to be/ Right here in the D/ You know what I’m saying/ I ain’t playing/ It’s all in the message that I’m relaying to you/ And your crew/ And this is how we do.”

Flavor Flav revealed he also had close relatives that lived in the city. His other place of residence is in Las Vegas.

Sis2Sis reported in November that the Public Enemy member went bonkers with a Spirit Airlines employee after missing his flight to Detroit.
