English Foward Mason Greenwood To Discontinue Career With Manchester United After Attempted Rape Charges Were Dropped

Manchester United announced

on Monday, Aug. 21, that forward Mason Greenwood will be exiting the club after charges against him dropped.

In a statement, the club stated that Greenwood and those involved decided it’d be best for him to resume his soccer career sans Manchester United, adding they were working with him to make it possible.

“It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome,” the statement read.

In October 2022, the Crown Prosecution Service charged the 21-year-old with “attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior and assault occasioning actual bodily harm,” it deterred him from continuing his career due to serious allegations against him.

Eight days after his last match with United (Jan. 22, 2022), he was arrested after horrible images and videos surfaced of a young woman with bruises all over her body.

In one video, the woman could be heard telling an angry man that she didn’t want to have sex with him. The man forcibly told her to “move your f**king legs up,” and she said the name “Mason,” causing many to believe she was referring to Greenwood.

The man also said, “I don’t give a f**k what you want, you little s**t.”

In February 2023, CPS dropped the charges against him, stating, “In this case, a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case.”

United CEO Richard Arnold released a statement explaining they parted ways with Greenwood to respect the alleged victim’s wishes, adding the victim asked the police to drop the charges.
