Hippin Hops Opens In East Atlanta As Georgia’s First Black-Owned Brewery

Hippin Hops Brewery and Oyster Bar recently had their grand opening in East Atlanta Village, making it the first-ever Black-owned brewery in Georgia. The unique business welcomes all beer lovers and offers various food options and games for guests to play.

Described as “fresh, bold, and hearty flavors, with the right amount of malt and hops, sweetness and bitterness,” Hippin Hops offers guests authentic craft beers, including both lagers and ales. As for the menu, Hippin Hops lives up to its name by featuring “freshly chucked oysters” and a variety of seafood.

A few of their signature dishes include Shrimp Po’Boys, Lobster and Belgian Waffles and Cajun Shrimp Deviled Eggs. In the dessert section of their menu, Hippin Hops went for what they know best: “Delicious Beer!” Jamarius “J.” Banks, a former contestant on Food Network’s Beat Bobby Flay, curated the appetizing menu.

The Black-owned brewery was founded by husband and wife duo Donnica and Clarence Boston in East Atlanta. The couple also has several restaurants in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to Eater. Hippin Hops has indoor and outdoor seating, but the Bostons also

plan to create a rooftop patio for their guests.

On being the first Black-owned brewery in Georgia history, Boston told CBS 46 that he was surprised to discover the news. “We were shocked. We didn’t even know.” Boston also told the news outlet that he had been making his own beer for 20 years and decided to turn his hobby into a business with his wife when he saw a local building up for sale.

Hippin Hops’ outdoor area has a “beer garden,” a place where visitors can gather and play games. Jenga, Cornhole and Beer Pong will be available along with a seating area for guests who want to enjoy their food and drinks outside.

Located on Glenwood Avenue, Hippin Hops is open to guests Wednesday through Sunday.
