LaQuitta Willis Shot and Killed After Asking Customer to Wear Face Mask

ABC News reported that Laquitta Willis died from injuries suffered after being shot on Monday inside the Big Bear Supermarket in Decatur, Georgia, after an argument with a customer over not wearing a face mask.

The suspected shooter, Victor Lee Tucker Jr. of Palmetto, has been charged with murder and aggravated assault.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Tucker got into an argument with Willis about his face mask and left the store without making a purchase.

However, the suspect immediately returned to the store, walked directly to Willis, pulled out a gun and shot her.

DeKalb County Reserves Deputy Danny Jordan, who was working off-duty as security for the supermarket, attempted to intervene and deescalate the issue but ended up exchanging gunfire with Tucker.

The sheriff’s office said a second cashier was grazed by a bullet and was treated at the scene.

Tucker was also injured in the shootout.

He remained in a hospital but was expected to survive, according to police. Jordan was shot twice but was wearing a bulletproof vest and remained hospitalized in “stable condition.”

In efforts of support for the tragic death of Willis, members of the community have shown up at the supermarket, still in utter shock over the latest wave of supermarket shooting violence.

Helene Mapp, who knew Willis, according to WSBTV, said“I always felt safe coming here, so that had to (have) been a very angry person.”

“I am devastated as to what happened in this community,” Mapp added.

“Every one of these ladies up here real sweet. Real sweet ladies, man, and it really don’t make no sense, you know what I mean? Senseless,” she continued.

GoFundMe fundraising page has been set up to help Willis’s friend and family pay for funeral costs.
