Maryland Man Arrested For Reportedly Murdering Wife After Asking Police For A Welfare Check

Charles County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Waldorf man on Dec. 9 for allegedly murdering his wife, according to a CCSO press release.

Travis Edward Paschal Wood, 33, walked into the CCSO station and requested that officers do a welfare check on his wife at his home located on the 2300 block of Tawny Drive in Waldorf. Authorities said that when they entered the house, they found his wife, 32-year-old Shawnda Nicole Wood, dead with gunshot wounds.

CCSO police arrested Wood the same day, and he was charged with first-degree and second-degree murder, two counts of assault and a firearms charge. Police has Wood held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center.

It’s unclear why Wood killed his wife or what led to her death, but the two had three daughters, 11-year-old Autumn, 9-year-old McKenzie and 8-year-old Melrose. A GoFundMe was created to go towards funeral expenses and her daughters.

“We are overjoyed by the contributions given to help provide Shawnda Nicole with the proper homegoing celebration,” Swanice King, the Beneficiary, wrote under a Dec. 17 update. “The community surrounding her reminds our family of the impact she had on everyone’s life. We have reached our initial goal of $20,000. Ay additional donations given will go directly to a trust fund for Shawnda’s three daughters. Our family thanks everyone for supporting us during this time.”

The GoFundMe campaign is still collecting donations.

Jamaal King, a family member of Shawnda, posted two days after her death.

“I can’t believe you’re gone…REST in PEACE SIS,, lord please place all!! Your mercy and grace on the SMITH FAMILY and KING FAMILY at this time,” the post read.

Police are requesting those with any information regarding this murder to come forward. Detective Weaver can be contacted at 301-609-6571. Those who wish to come forward but remain anonymous can contact Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS.
