Melichsia Boss: The CEO And Owner Of Potent Jamaican Black Castor Oil In Chicago

Melichsia Boss, owner and CEO of Potent Jamaican Black Castor Oil, has taken over the beauty industry with her hair care products using a recipe initially created by her late grandfather. She formulates and manufactures the products in her 5,000 square feet warehouse in Chicago. And now, Boss is the first and only Black woman in the area to attain this level of achievement, Black News reported.

The Potent Jamaican Black Castor Oil products serve those who suffer from damaged hair starting at the scalp. For 13 years, the business has been dedicated to helping Black communities achieve healthier hair by using castor oil. The hair care line includes:

  • Sea moss and hair growth collection.
  • Hair growth oils.
  • Jamaican hair shampoos.
  • Conditioners.
  • Wholesale and private label program.

While Black castor oil is known to aid in hair growth, Boss rebranded the family recipe by adding essential oils and nutrients to the formula. As a result, the dark, aromatic mixture can be used on damaged or thin hair to increase hair length.

Boss created the castor hair care line due to a personal experience with her hair. She recalled watching her Jamaican grandfather crafting the infamous Black castor oil hair treatment and applying it to her hair when she was a child. Over the years, Boss researched the benefits of Black castor oil and decided to use the family recipe and build her own company.

Potent Jamaican Black Castor Oil is more beneficial by roasting the castor bean (Ricinus communis) than pressing the seeds. While the method has nutty undertones, it helps relieve excessive dandruff bacteria in the scalp. PJBCO products differ from other hair care lines because of the added essential oils, vitamins, and nutrients that promote air growth.

While PJBCO is sold through Boss’ BDI Enterprises & Brands, Boss believes in helping other entrepreneurs tap into the multi-billion dollar industry.

She helps other businesses to purchase unbranded ready-made products in bulk through the wholesale and white label program. The wholesale sector recognizes PJBCO as the leading distributor to major brands and corporations.

“I wanted to create innovative hair care products that focus on scalp care and improve all hair types. This gave me the inspiration and the motivation to join the business arena where I now have a positive impact in the beauty industry,” Boss said.
