Rapper Gunna and Goodr Partnered To Open Grocery Store In Ronald McNair Middle School

On September 16, rapper and artist Gunna partnered with the food waste management company, Goodr to set up a free grocery store inside of Ronald McNair Middle School in Atlanta, Georgia.

Gunna, whose real name is Sergio Kitchens, is an alumnus of the school.

“The rapper Gunna is from this area and was actually a McNair alum. He wanted to give back to his community and chose McNair,”

said John Madden Jr., the school’s principal to CW69 Atlanta. “We’re just excited about this opportunity to be able to have this additional resource for our communities.”

A Facebook post by Goodr provides more details about what all the store carries. The post said, “on Thursday, we officially opened Gunna’s “Goodr Grocery Store and Drip Closet” – a free grocery and clothing store. Inside his former middle school, which he attended along with his four brothers. At a ribbon-cutting ceremony which was preceded by September 16 being declared “Gunna Day” in the City of South Fulton by mayoral Proclamation.”

“The store features nutritious foods including: [v]egan friendly items, shelf-stable foods, snacks, toiletries, shoes, and clothing provided by Foot Locker and Reebok,” the post continued. “Students at Ronald E. McNair Middle School will now have daily access to these items, free of charge, and the ability to take them home to their families.”

Essence reported that the store is going to have enough products to serve

900 students.

The Atlanta Community Food Bank reported that 1 in 8 people in Georgia are food insecure, and 1 in 6 children are food insecure.

The term “food insecurity” measures the amount of food available to a specific person and their ability to access it, and it also considers affordability and nutrition as quantifying factors.
