Iconic golf player Tiger Woods and his son Charlie Axel Woods limped through a recent tournament that they refused to miss.
According to ESPN, Tiger and Charlie were both seen limping at the PNC Championship on Friday, Dec. 16. at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando, Grande Lakes.
“His ankle is not exactly…well, it’s better than mine,” the golf legend said, referring to his son hobbling along during the pro-am and rolling his ankle. “It’s just the way it goes, just kind of bad timing on it. But we’ll be ready come game time tomorrow.”
The PNC Championship, which pairs major champions with a relative, is sanctioned by the PGA Tour Champions, making Tiger eligible to ride a cart–which he had done with Charlie. However, that could come at a cost and when asked if playing the 36-hole tournament may set him back, he responded, “Yes.”
“You know, I don’t really care about that. I think being there with and alongside my son is far more important, and getting to have a chance to have this experience with him is far better than my foot being a little creaky,” he said.
The five-time Masters champion reportedly shattered his right leg in a February 2021 car cash in Los Angeles. At the time, he was driving a 2021 Genesis GV80 northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard when he drove into the southbound lanes, struck a tree and rolled SUV several times. As a result of the crash, he now has plantar fasciitis in his right foot, which forced him to withdraw from his Hero World Challenge two weeks ago.
“I’m supposed to be resting this thing and stretching and letting it heal. But I’m not doing that at the moment,” Tiger added.
As for Charlie, he damaged his left ankle to the point that he fell to his knees at one point during the recent tournament.
“On some shots it hurt a lot. Walking was tough,” he shared during his first time in front the media at the event. “But it was all right. It wasn’t that bad.”
His dad first introduced him to a national TV audience at the 2020 PNC Championship.
