Two Philadelphia Inmates Escaped Correctional Facility, Employees Weren’t Aware For 19 Hours

Philadelphia officials asked the public for help after their negligence led to two Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center inmates’ escape.

According to Fox News, 18-year-old Ameen Hurst and 24-year-old Nasir Grant escaped

the correctional facility around 8 p.m. on Sunday. The facility’s staff members weren’t aware of it for 19 hours.

The staff conducted the mandatory headcounts at 11 p.m. on Sunday, 3 a.m. on Monday and 7 a.m. Monday. Yet, no one realized they were gone until 3 p.m.

Hurt, 6 feet tall and 140 pounds, and Grant, 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds, cut a hole in the fence surrounding the recreational yard and made a break for it.

Philadelphia Prisons Department Commissioner Blanche Carney said the escape happened because protocols weren’t followed.

“We have protocols in place, and those protocols were not followed,” Carney admitted Monday evening. “That yard should have been secured and the fence not breached.”

Because of their negligence, millions of citizens are in danger. Hurst got arrested on March 21, 2021, for killing four people in the city. The first murder happened on Christmas Even in 2020 and on the 1800 block of Winwood. The other three murders happened in March 2021. One of the murderers (March 18, 2021) was believed to be a “case of mistaken identity.”

“He’s a very dangerous individual from what we know, and we are looking for the public’s help to get him back,” Philadelphia police Deputy Commissioner of Investigations Frank Vanore said. “We want to get this individual back in custody.”

Grant was arrested on conspiracy drug and weapon charges.

Police believe the two men were together. Anyone with any information regarding the location of the men is advised to call Northeast Detectives at 215-686-3153, 215-686-TIPS (8477) or 911.

Please avoid approaching the suspects if they are spotted. Citizens near the area should keep all doors to houses and vehicles locked.
